Jane Phillips is the inaugural Professor of Palliative Nursing at the University of Notre Dame, Australia - Sydney and attached to The Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care, based at Sacred Heart Hospice, St Vincent’s, Sydney. Since commencing on this clinical academic pathway in late 2009 she has been focussed on improving care outcomes for people in the last year of life by strengthening the nexus between research, policy and practice. She is currently undertaking studies to evaluate non-pharmacological interventions to improve breathlessness, health services research to improve care outcomes for older people with cancer and to improve symptom management for older people in residential aged care and translational research in the areas of pain management and bereavement care. She has developed and evaluated nurse coordinated models of palliative care and has extensive experience in cancer and chronic disease nursing, and research. Jane has an in-depth understanding of cancer and palliative care, experience in delivering best evidenced based nursing care across diverse settings, including rural and regional Australia and considerable experience in leading and evaluating complex health service reforms.
