Prof Macrae has had a life long clinical research career in evaluating early detection of colorectal cancer, stemming from his seminal work on patterns of bleeding from colorectal neoplasia. He has particpated in all levels of planning, implementation and monitoring of the NBCSP.
His interests also include secretary of the International Society for Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumours (InSiGHT), and Steering Committe of the US NCI Colon Family Register. He recently was part of the successful NHMRC application for risk assesssment in colorectal cancer and is the international vice chair of he CAPP group defining the beneficial effects of aspirin in preventing colorectal cancer.
