Jim commenced work in the area of cancer pharmacy practice in 1989 soon after completing his BPharm degree. In 1998, he successfully completed the inaugural US Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP), re-certifying in 2006 and 2013. In 2004, he was awarded Fellowship to the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA), and in 2005 completed his Masters in Clinical Pharmacy. In 2015, the Australian Pharmacy Council credentialed him as an Advanced Practice Pharmacist. In 2019, he was admitted as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for service to oncology pharmacy as a clinician, and to professional associations. Jim is currently the Senior Pharmacist for Cancer Services at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre at Austin Health, Heidelberg, Australia.
Jim has been an active member of many professional organisations. He served on the SHPA Committee of Specialty Practice in Oncology and the Cancer Pharmacists Group of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia, which he chaired for 2 years from 2010. Jim was also the ISOPP Chair of the Standards Committee for 4 years from 2012.
Jim has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at local, national and international conferences. He has lectured to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at both Melbourne and Monash Universities.
Jim’s major interests are solid tumours, with a particular interest in colorectal cancer. He also has an interest in occupational health and safety issues in the handling of cytotoxic drugs.
